Abstract

Estimate of turbulent flow and contaminant concentrationin push-pull ventilation system are studied numerically by the k-¥åturbulent model. The finite difference technique considered is upwind scheme and the solution algorithm used is SIMPLE
method.
Main results of the study are summarized as follows.
The larger push nozzle width produces a more gentle and uniform entrainment of ambient air. Velocity fields have influence on the distributions of temperature and contaminant concentration. Convection is the dominant transport mechanism near the
liquid
surface. The performance of push-pull ventilation system can be improved by means of entrainment of ambient air with as little turbulence as possible. Thus, the wide push nozzle should be used to maximize entrainment and minimize turbulence.
